Fifteen-year-old K is different in a way even she doesn't understand. For one thing she can see her mom's new boyfriend for what he really is. Her discovery sets off an adventure that includes rescuing her missing father, a journey through the Great Void, and a sizzling confrontation with the deadly thing that only seemed human. Excerpt from Unwired Girl The surface of the water roiled like a pot with a boiling egg and a too-high flame. Lights flashed beneath the water, purple and yellow, then a gigantic electric POP, followed by an enormous fizzing sound, and the water turned phosphorescent green around the disappearing car. Then suddenly it was silent, the phosphorescence and all the lights gone, followed by a last feeble poppoppop, like the final kernels in a Jiffy Pop pan. Then all was done, the lights out and dark, and everything quiet beneath the water, nothing but the sound of the waves splashing beside the pier on the beach.

Unwired Girl was a suspenseful surprise. When I first opened the book and read that the main character was a fifteen year old girl, I was hoping that it wasn't going to be a typical teeny bopper romance novel. Much to my delight, Stacy put me into the heart and soul of a nonconformist teenage girl who purposely bucked the "norm." I could relate to Kati on a personal level. Kati is a teenager who doesn't care what others think of her. She is determined to be who and what she wants to be, and to hell with anyone's approval.Stacy creates suspense, intrigue and a healthy dose of self-doubt into the story as Kati confronts what she feels is terrifyingly real and what everyone else sees as "normal." This book kept me on the edge of my seat hoping that things will work out.

Unwired Girl John Stacy 9781482664270 Books Reviews
So great to read a story about teens from a different point of view. Also refreshing is the sci-fi element that doesn't requests a PhD to follow. The characters are brought to life..A fun. Book for all ages.
A fun ride! Great story with interesting characters and a plot that moves quickly with twists and turns! Highly recommend for young adult readers and anyone with a young heart.
It is a great book to tell about things in the past and also keeping a modern up-to-date view. It is a good mystery and I think most young adults would enjoy reading this book. It is fun, and mysterious at the same time. If there is a young teen in the house who likes to read, this is a book for them. It is also fun for adults who are young at heart.
Unwired Girl is a romp! "K," our protagonist, misses her father. She mistrusts her mother's new boyfriend, Braxton. K has few friends, in part because she is the only person she knows who hates technology. K's mother,Lena, is always "connected," trailing wires from her ears, purse, and thumbs. Yet K is the only one who is really plugged in to the real Braxton.
The story is told from K's point of view, and reveals her literary nature and sharp wit, as she makes fun of her bullying friends, annoying teachers, and her clueless mom.
If you like fantasy, teenage angst, and poking fun at our addiction to computers and smart phones, you will love this book!
