Do dragons have soul mates?
Brinley Adams is pleased to get a job as assistant to elusive and reclusive billionaire Lindrom Drage. That the job requires him to live in the man’s home in the country is only a bonus. While he’s not exactly running away, he’s trying to leave behind a crazy, stalking ex, and Drage’s isolated home might be just the place to hide.
Lindrom Drage, known at home as Dragon, just wants an assistant who works out for longer than a month or two. He’s already gone through several in the last year, and he wants someone who can do the job and put up with his refusal to deal with anything that takes him out of his home. But when he meets Brin, he suddenly wants so much more than just a work assistant.
Brin doesn’t know his boss is actually a dragon. The trick is going to be convincing Brin that neither of them is crazy, and that not only are dragons real, so are soul mates.

Blowing Smoke edition by Sean Michael Romance eBooks
When you read a Sean Michael book, you're taking a chance that the book you are reading is going to be sex over substance. While this book was enjoyable, it was one of those books. It had the potential to be so much more and I would have loved the author to delve into the lore of the dragons and the lives of the two MCs in more depth. I wanted the story to go somewhere and it never really did. Still I give it three stars because the parts that I didn't skim over were good.Sean Michael if you're reading this could you please write an in depth shifter story that while has some good sex scenes has a good story to go with it?

Blowing Smoke edition by Sean Michael Romance eBooks Reviews
Blowing Smoke may start out like you're about to read a boss-employee romance-especially after reading the blurb, but it almost immediately turns into a pure oh-so-tremendously-guilty pleasure read instead. And it stays that way the whole way through. Yes, it's peppered with other details about Dragon being a shifter and he and Brin being soul mates, but the primary focus of the story stays on their intensely passionate and quite naughty physical relationship.
When the story first starts out, you'd expect it to come back around to some type of conflict...like maybe Brin's stalker ex, or maybe something having to do with the dragon soul mate angle, but while we do get a little more regarding Brin and Dragon's bond and Dragon's reveal to Brin that yes, he really is a dragon, the rest of the story is a continual look into their intimate relationship. Admittedly those scenes were scorching and risqué, and they'll have you reaching for a fan and copious amounts of ice to cool yourself off...but personally I would have liked a bit more relationship building and some additional friction in the story to give it more depth.
Like I said--this is a guilty pleasure book, and if you're a fan of that (I mean come on-we all want a good, smutty read from time to time, right?), this book will fit the bill quite nicely. Good thing that's exactly what I was in the mood for when I picked it up ;-)
Blowing Smoke is strictly for readers 18+ due to adult language and explicit M/M sexual content. A LOT of that content. Those who like a bit of dragon shifter in their stories will enjoy that aspect as well, just again understand that the focus of the story lies in the more carnal scenes-all of which are quite creatively written and full of intensely sensual and explicitly erotic content.
Good story thanks!
You always know there is going to be a lot of sex in a Sean Michael book, but there usually is a plot in the longer books.
The sex was just as hot as I had anticipated in this book, with a lighter amount of BDSM than I was expecting. My biggest gripe with this is that the plot was very loose. I expect insta-love with a shifter book, but it seemed that both Brin and Dragon only felt a mild attraction at first, and then, suddenly it was so much more without any transition. The characters clearly had their own backstories but we were only given hints to them so that not a lot of development happened. Overall, this was good, and I liked it, but it had the promise of being so much better.
I waffled between 2 and 3 stars. Of course, it's because I did like the book, but just was deeply disappointed by the story. As another reviewer pointed out, it's a toss up from what Sean Michael writes. You're either getting story...or erotica. I was hoping for the former...and was a little annoyed at getting the latter. This is, of course, a personal problem, but reviews are all opinion based anyway, so whatever.
Dragon was just...I couldn't get over how stupid it was to call him Dragon. It constantly took me out of the story. I suppose it's no better than Dragon being called Drake or Draco (essentially dragon in other languages), but it just made me want to roll my eyes every time the name popped up until I felt dizzy. Then I just sighed. It just smacks of laziness or being ribbed by the author who is winking, and smirking and going "Get it....? Get iiiiiit....? He's a DRAGON!".
Brinley I actually liked. I wish I could have seen more of him managing (sigh) Dragon's business. I was more interested with Brin working and ignoring his attraction than when (sigh) Dragon was seducing Brin into being his submissive. And that's it. That's all I got about Brin.
Mild spoilers (for what little exist in something that is almost pure erotica)
The story itself had no real tension, other than sexual tension of "how much before Brin is too sore to be able to go any further". Seriously. Brin doesn't seem to need much downtime. A stalker is mentioned, but never actually shows up. Abuse is hinted at, but never really explored. (sigh) Dragon just does his steam rolling over Brin's life and proceeds to completely negate the point of having Brin to begin with. Now (sigh) Dragon has to hire someone else to do Brin's job, but that's not really looked into other than "WHOOPS. I forgot that the real world existed outside of me constantly sexing up Brin". No real issues pop up between (sigh) Dragon and Brin, other than how long until (sigh) Dragon pushes Brin's boundaries again. The world pretty much ceases to exist outside of the pocket of special, magical existence that (sigh) Dragon has ecked out. Where the blurb suggests that (sighs) Dragon will have issues convincing Brin...nope. Not really. Just a lot of "I'm crazy!" and "No you're not. Lemme sex you up." and then Brin giving up to start the mind narrative up again later. Never once did I think that Brin would ever leave (sigh) Dragon, nor any real drama. Just sex. Lots and lots of sex.
End the mild spoilers
Please, if you do decide to buy this book, realize that you're buying porn-without-plot. Though, I suppose if you squint really hard you can see some plot, but it's not very inspiring. If you want to read a lot of gratuitous sex that, in some places, smacks close to dubious consent, then pick it up! That is one thing I do like about Sean Michael he can write some detailed sex scenes.
I skipped a third of the book because it was repetative and extremely simple plot... a very competant but sexually abused young hot guy works as a personal assistant for a Dragon. With only 3 simple interactions that do no not give consent the dragon has intense sex with him dispite the young man's refusal. It hinted towards rape, and kept an awkward BDSM theme. Sadly, the young man turns virtually into a sexual zombie, and the last chapter hints at him 8 weeks or several months later not comprehending reality anymore. I wanted to like this book, but neither of the main charactors were very likable, detailed, and the story had too many flaws unless you want a story that, even though it was never fully agreed to it, someone essentially becomes a sex slave to a hot Dom Dragon. Than this book was perfect.
